About the Author

Damian Nance is Distinguished Professor of Geological Sciences at Ohio University. Damian has twice received the College of Arts and Sciences Outstanding Teacher Award, has been twice nominated for the University's Outstanding Graduate Faculty Award, and has toured as a distinguished lecturer for the Atlantic Provinces Intercollegiate Council for the Sciences. He has also worked for the Department of Energy, Argonne National Laboratories, Exxon Production Research Company, and Cominco America. In addition to being the author of over 150 papers, Dr. Nance is a Fellow of the Geological Society of America, former Editor of GSA Today, upcoming Editor of Lithosphere, and Associate Editor of Gondwana Research and Geoscience Frontiers.

Brendan Murphy is Professor of Earth Sciences at St. Francis Xavier University. Brendan is an engaged teacher who has supervised more than 50 undergraduate theses and still manages to maintain an active research program that has allowed him to publish over 165 papers. He has been honored for his service to the discipline with the Geologic Society of America's Distinguished Service Award and with the Geologic Association of Canada's J. Willis Ambrose Medal. Few geoscientists can match Dr. Murphy's record of excellence in professional endeavor, dedication to education, and record of service to the profession.

Dr. Nance and Dr. Murphy have collaborated together for 28 years, publishing their first joint paper in 1987. Since then, they have coauthored over 100 papers and two books.

It wasn't even necessary to purchase it from my class, because my professor was an awesome lecturer, but the authors of the book really made everything very interesting, as my professor, and I pretty much read every chapter which helped me improve my test scores. Excellent overview of Mind Expanding Techniques

I bought the book years ago and read it three times. It is a very good overview of the subjects.
The part I like the most is the Self-hynosis part. I have been following the recipes to make my own self-hypnosis tapes over the years. I have had only excellent results.
If record one tape a year (more or less), to accomplish different results, and I use them often until I reach my goals.
I recommend this book to anyone who wishes to reprogram some undesirable patterns of behavior.

I see why Roy Hunter does the hero worship thing in all his books about Mr. Tebbetts!

Well, Charles Tebbetts is a genuine pioneer in bringing all the "mind stuff" and mental sciences together and is very easy to understand and read. If he was not, I would not have went through all the trouble I went through to find a newer copy of this book.

Well, here is the back story: My Mom and I went to The Psychic Eye bookstore in Thousand Oaks a few months ago, and I was actually secretly hoping I would find a new version of this book at a reasonable price. I have an older version, but it is rather dog eared and quite used. Well, I found it as well as an old C. Roy Hunter mind power book, I opted to get exactly what I wanted, and I genuinely have no regrets. You will not, when you get this book because I will repeat what I said above in a *hypnotic* way: Well, Charles Tebbetts is a genuine pioneer in bringing all the "mind stuff" and mental sciences together and is very easy to understand and read. If he was not, I would not have went through all the trouble I went through to find a newer copy of this book.

Disappointing....

In the fourth book in the Fab Life series, Sunday starts her freshman year at Spelman and meets some new friends and tries to juggle her singing and songwriting career and college at the same time. Plus she's up for an AMA award and she is tempted to cheat on her boyfriend Sam and also learns that he lied to her in the past and that her cousin Dreya stabbed her in the back and Mystique might also be playing her as well.
Overall this book wasn't as good as the rest in the series, which was very disappointing since I love the series and was looking forward to this book. I'm guessing it's because the supporting characters like Dreya, Sam, Bethany, and Truth were all hardly in this book and because the whole college setting in YA stuff is just boring. I could have done without the whole Sunday at Spelman parts. Plus well I was okay with the whole carbon copy characters to real life people in the last book in this book it was kind of annoying (it was obvious that Mystique and Zillionaire are Beyonce and Jay Z and that Evan guy is P. Diddy.) Plus a couple of things made me mad in this book, for starters Sunday makes constant references about Bethany and Dilly's relationship because he's in high school but he is a senior which is just a year younger then them, the way Sunday talks about it (for instance like when Bethany found out she was pregnant she told her that Dilly was "too young" for that type of relationship) you would think they were at least 10 years older then the guy and plus as I recall Sunday was kind of feeling Dilly herself in the second book. Plus the whole thing with forcing Bethany to get an abortion was so over the top! Who would do that? What kind of message is that to send to young people? If you get pregnant and want a music career you better get an abortion? But anyway I'm so hoping the next book is better because this one just didn't live up to the past books at all.

While Sunday is used to being recognized, asked for autographs and spotlighted for her incredible talent, she's still a regular college student with aspirations of going into Entertainment Law. Her roommate, Gia, who readers have followed in Nikki Carter's `So Real Series,' is precisely whom Sunday needs around. Gia's eclectic style and crew mesh well with newfound college students, Piper, a foster kid, and Meagan, a trust fund baby. While those closest to Sunday can't understand why college is essential when she's already living her dream out, Sunday's new entourage helps to keep her grounded. As the friends get better acquainted, their friendship grows into a sisterhood of sorts.

College is hectic enough on its own. Trying to balance class, fame, studio time, promotional tours and a long distance relationship just proves that Sunday has a full plate. It would be much easier if Dreya, her cousin, actually respected the fact that she and Sunday were actually related. Not to mention that her boo, Sam, is totally different since moving to New York. Can Sunday remain neutral or is she bound to get swept up in the madness?

"On The Flip Side," book four in the `Fab Life Series,' is a good fit to the series. Readers get to see Sunday grow and I love that Gia and her crew are here! They compliment one another. While it's no mistaking that Sunday is the main character, I like that Nikki Carter finds a way to make both of them shine. Breakups, paternity, and money make up the pages in this book. As always, I'm looking forward to see how, or if, Sunday changes her tune?

this book is very intresting and very inspiring but the only thing is that i feel it is more building to a big storyline nothing really happened and anything that did is in the begining stages i have very high hope for the next book but this book is definietly a must read!

About the Author
Gordon M. Wardlaw, Ph.D., has taught introductory nutrition courses to students in the Department of Human Nutrition at The Ohio State University, and at other colleges and universities. Dr. Wardlaw is the author of many articles that have appeared in prominent nutrition, biology, physiology, and biochemistry journals and was the 1985 recipient of the American Dietetic Association’s Mary P. Huddleson Award. Dr. Wardlaw is a member of the American Society for Nutritional Sciences and is certified as a Specialist in Human Nutrition by the American Board of Nutrition. Dr. Wardlaw is currently retired from academia.

One of the best text books I have had

I recently used this book for class and found it so easy to use, straight forward and accurate. The version I received also had an accompanying CD which may or may not come with this version from Amazon.
This book covers the basics from the different types of nutrients to in depth details of vitamins, minerals, weight loss, child nutrition, and exercise.

Be sure that your professor wants the 7th edition, otherwise buy the one they are requesting. My professor was working off of the 6th edition and said that the 7th was fine but it is not! They moved some things around so you are working on different page numbers and there is not alcohol section in this book like there is in the 6th edition.

Other than that, I love this book and it is one of the few that I am not reselling. Good for a student, or anyone trying to learn more about nutrition and becoming healthy, active and a proper weight.

Not a College Level Text

This book is specifically an introduction to nutrition concepts text. While I understand it is an introduction, I still felt that concepts were far too simplified. I felt as though I were reading an 8th grade health book, rather than a college level introductory text. I also felt that some of the writing felt opinionated, not necessarily any concepts that I disagree with, but the book just doesn't seem to provide enough sources to prove points beyond opinion.
A bit disappointing, I am hoping to find a better nutrition book. I welcome any suggestions.

Great Text Book

I am using this book in my undergrad college course. It is great. I find it way more helpful than the professor's presentations when it comes to my exams. She is using it more for a reference than teaching from it, but it is most definitely worth the $$ and much cheaper here than buying through the college book store where it was $40 more expensive. Great buy for anyone interested in learning about nutrition.

Nonlinear structural analysis in civil engineering is not a new topic. The Force Analogy Method as a relatively new algorithm was first developed in 1999 for solving nonlinear dynamic analysis problems.

Conventional methods for calculating the nonlinear behavior of civil engineering structures use the analysis procedure of changing the structural member stiffness, while structural dynamics is incorporated into the procedure through implicit time integration of the varying stiffness matrices. Examples of these conventional methods include the Wilson-and Newmark- methods. In these conventional methods, the major problem is that significant iterative computations in updating the time-varying stiffness matrices have to be performed to ensure numerical convergence once the structure experiences yielding and nonlinear deformation. As a result, the iterative operation is time consuming and the entire dynamic analysis process becomes practically uneconomical. By using the force analogy method, on the other hand, the state-transition matrix needs to be computed only once due to the constant use of the initial stiffness of the structure, and this greatly simplifi es the overall computation and makes the nonlinear analysis readily available for solving various practical problems.

Engaging, approachable and ACCURATE

I ordered K.N. King's ``C Programming: A Modern Approach (Second Edition)'' from Amazon for my recent birthday. Having had more birthdays than I care to admit, this gift to myself is right up there with a Lionel train set I got for my eighth birthday (not from Amazon, of course -- it didn't exist that long ago but passengers trains sure did :)).

In this second edition, I think that KNK is now the logical heir to K&R. That's not meant as blasphemy -- Kernighan and Ritchie's still great volume is around 20 years of age and it's unlikely they'll be getting together for K&R3. The C language has undergone enough changes (with the amendment of 1994) and C99, that a ``Modern Approach'' really is needed.

There's another author familiar to readers of the comp.lang.c newsgroup for his approachable, engaging writing style. That author is a wonderful writer but doesn't let the truth get in the way of good narrative. King, though, is an equally engaging writer but is obviously passionate about correctness and adhering to the C standard. He's also meticulous about portability so that the examples are written in pure C and not some platform-specific variant.

I've the entire book and can find hardly anything even nitpick. Aside from a minor style difference about using parentheses with the ``sizeof'' operator, which King explains his rationale for doing so, that's about it.

His explanation of C99 (and the differences from C90 are clearly indicated) made me aware of some really nice features of the current standard for the language (and makes me wonder why one very notable compiler implementer hasn't yet supported C99).

In short, get this book. The Q&A sections at the end of each chapter are very well done. The exercises and programming projects help to amplify the material presented. And King's examples will teach you more about barcodes and ISBN numbers than you ever thought possible.

If you can appreciate the work of a fine craftsman in film such as Martin Scorsese, you'll find that King is of that caliber in the realm of lucidly dealing with this technical subject.

Probably the best (although I'm biased)

Some years back, someone mentioned the first edition of this book on Usenet as a possible alternative to K&R for someone trying to learn C. I was surprised, but I got a copy of the book to find out... And he was right.

Let me get the biases out on the table first: I did technical review of this book for the 2nd edition. But... While that leaves me in a great place to be biased about it, it also means that I'm aware of just how few typos or bugs were there even in the draft versions.

This book is an excellent teaching resource; it covers the language carefully, completely, and well. However, mere clarity of communication isn't enough to make a good programming reference; you also need to have confidence that the example code works as described, that the explanations given are correct, and so on. This is one of the only books out there I feel comfortable recommending to people, without worrying that I'll end up having to correct dozens of misconceptions later.

Quite simply, this is the C book I recommend to people who want to learn C, or polish up their C. In a market full of "approachable" books which are full of errors, this book offers a combination of clarity and accuracy which is unmatched.

The Q&A section is also very helping and efficient for understanding the language.
I use this book now as a reference book for the C language.

Despite of the high cost, this book is very recommended because once you've learn C in an appropriate way, you will never have to buy any other book in order to learn it and to become more professional in it, as that book is makes it all for you for a once.

Not all of Lisa's books are good, she tends to repeat herself. But this one is one of her best. You don't want to let it go, it takes you away in her special world, as she travels over Europe. I've read it again and again and again...
