Another great story in the Wolves of Climax series

I am yet again finding myself at a cliffhanger waiting for more. Oh the wonderful wolves of Climax. They really are a hot handful of men that are anxious to claim their mate. Like the other stories in the series, this one begins exactly where the previous story left off. Cassidy is frustrated with the fact that her men are keeping something from her, Garret is sending her away from the mine while the inspector is there, and now she found out that the inspector is not only a woman, but a beautiful one. As jealousy rears its ugly head, Cassidy finds herself lost in her predicament. Unsure of what to do and who to trust, she contemplates leaving her men in hopes of saving herself from a broken heart. Doubting their love for her, she fears this new woman will prove her fears to be true. Of course her attempts to avoid them are short lived when she finds Evan lurking at her door step refusing to let her go.

Evan is the most loyal of the pack and refuses to disobey his Alpha. After a horrible incident occured when he was younger, he refuses to follow his instinct and disobey Garret. He is struggling with the fact that he is sure of his love for Cassidy but cannot claim her as his own due to pack law. He has heard rumors of someone wanting to kidnap their soon to be mate and wants to make sure she is protected. What he doesn't understand is why Garret has not claimed her for the pack yet. If she was marked, things would be solid between the pack and the Rockford wolves would have no chance at claiming Cassidy for themselves. With threats from both Rockford and the loggers that have been capturing wolves, Evan finds himself in close quarters with Cassidy to keep her out of harms way. Happy to give in to his carnal desires, he enjoys the intimacy he and Cassidy share but fights to obey the rules. When Cassidy goes missing once again, he must decide if he is to obey his Alpha or follow his instinct in order to save the woman he loves.

As quick as these stories are, I have enjoyed every last one. At the same time, I admit I get annoyed with Cassidy from time to time. While no one wants to admit the possibility of wolf shifters, the amount of evidence she has seen is so obvious I want to pop her upside the head and tell her to wake up and see what is in front of her. Her men always show up naked (how come that never happens to me), they call themselves a pack, their boss is their Alpha, and they are always telling her she needs to be marked. That said, I just wish she knew already. At least with this story, there is some hint to her finally discovering their secret, but in true Stacey Espino fashion, you will have to wait until the next book to find out what happens. Let's just hope that beautiful red wolf can survive her reaction. Another great story in the Wolves of Climax series with more to come!

This series is okay. That is why the 3 stars. This whole story line could have been told in one book instead of dragging it out into 7 books.

You have the bad guys, the good guys and the one lady caught between all of them. One book could have told the story for everyone. Personally, my favorite guy / wolf is Matthew, the one that was missing.

I love this series!!! These men are hot hot hot! Very good read! Wish it would've been longer though! Can't wait until the last one comes out!

The analysis of German pronunciation is very comprehensive (and the simple phonetic system used in the early stages is readable by sight). The practice exercises are carefully designed to allow the student to use what he learned. The closing sections contain a summary of grammar, a guide to letter writing (with sample German letters), and a valuable study guide to German literature by Dr. Richard Friedenthal.
The book differs from others of its type in that it gives more attention to the elementary stages of learning, and the rate of progress is less rapid than usual. This means that any intelligent person, even if he is an absolute beginner, can with sufficient application arrive at the end of the course confident of having acquired a solid foundation for further study.

If You Are Planning To Go Back In Time, This May Be The Book For You.

This book is not helpful. It is not broken down in a good way for learning. For example, it does not teach you how to conjugate "to be" until page 42.

Moreover, it is so antiquated that it teaches you words that Germans don't use, e.g Knabe = boy, and Federn= pen! When I showed it to native Germans, they laughed and wondered if the book was hoping to teach Americans how to write old-sounding poetry.

Additionally, a good amount of the lessons focus on learning the words for cigarettes (including how to ask for an "American cigarette") and conjugating "to smoke."

My poor grey matter is working hard enough to learn relevant German words, I don't need this out-of-date book giving me worthless words and phrases.

Great book for German study

I bought this book entirely on the strength of the positive reviews on Amazon. And the price made it a small investment to boot.

Rather than repeat the accolades of others, I would mostly say "thank you" to the other reviewers for their accurate comments. This little volume has a lot of helpful grammar hints and tables. For me, it is like a course book which I am working through a chapter at a time.

I am using it to supplement Learn in Your Car German, which assists in developing aural and pronunciation skills. Between the two I am finding that my German vocabulary and reading skills are growing rapidly -- it is hard to imagine ever speaking German fluently, but then I felt that way studying Spanish and French at the outset.

It is now another month since my initial review and I keep finding more to like about this learning aid.

The 15-page Grammar Summary near the end of the book has a marvelous compilation of how articles (der, die and das, plus so-called "ein" and "der" words, change in each declension. Seeing the striking similarities in the endings for the various words in each case has made what looked to me like an incomprehensible mess pretty comprehensible.

Using this book helped me with making sense of signs and the written word while traveling in Switzerland in 2009. I put it aside for 18 months and now have another trip to Switzerland coming up so started over. Although I forgot a lot of vocabulary, the second time around the book is even better, probably because the first time around the declension of nouns and the split verbs were a complete mystery. This time, it all makes much more intuitive sense for some reason and the utility of the vocabulary taught in the book is much more evident to me this go around as well. When my Swiss grandsons understood my simple and probably grammatically incorrect sentence -- "Hast du essen gern salat?" "Do you like salad?" They and I were both surprised and pleased.

I remember almost everything from one read through

I read other reviews and decided to try this book. I have a background in several other languages but had almost zero knowledge of German when I began reading this book. After a few days, I can already say basic sentences and the way the vocab is introduced has me remembering more words than I thought I could. I'm considering redoing all of my Italian flashcards in a manner similar to the one found in this book. There is a lot of repetition and the lessons are short and filled with useful words. It doesn't move too fast as some other books do. The entire book is in black and white, so if you're looking for serious visual stimulation, you won't find it here. However, what's important is that it is successful in getting you to learn and remember the German language. It's very helpful to read everything out loud, as well. The pronunciation guide is useful, too, and better than I've seen in other books. Overall, this book is great and very inexpensive. I wish they had this method available for other languages.

About the Author
John S. Dempsey is Professor Emeritus of Criminal Justice at State University of New York (SUNY), Suffolk County Community College. He also teaches criminal justice and public administration courses at SUNY, Empire State College, where he serves as a mentor for ranking members of law enforcement and criminal justice agencies. Mr. Dempsey was a member of the New York City Police Department (NYPD) from 1964 until 1988, serving as a police officer, detective, sergeant, lieutenant and captain. He focused on both patrol and investigations. Mr. Dempsey received seven citations for meritorious and excellent police duty. After retiring from the NYPD, he served as Professor of Criminal Justice at Suffolk County Community College on Eastern Long Island, where he received the college's prestigious "Who Made a Difference Award" for his teaching and work with students. Mr. Dempsey lectures throughout the country on policing and criminal justice issues and is a member of the Academy of Criminal Justice Sciences (ACJS), the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP), ASIS International, the Northeastern Association of Criminal Justice Sciences (NEACJS), and the Criminal Justice Educators Association of New York State (CJEANYS). He has received the Outstanding Contributor Award from the ACJS Community College Section and the Fellows Award from the NEAJS. Mr. Dempsey has written several books on policing and security. He received his Associate of Arts Degree and his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Behavioral Science from the City University of New York, John Jay College of Criminal Justice, his Masters Degree in Criminal Justice from Long Island University and his Master's Degree in Public Administration from Harvard University, the John F. Kennedy School of Government.

Linda S. Forst is a professor of criminal justice at Shoreline Community College in Seattle, Washington, where she also serves on the Board of Law Enforcement Training Standards and Education for the State of Washington. Ms. Forst is a retired police captain from the Boca Raton (Florida) Police Services Department, where she served as a patrol officer, investigator, sergeant, lieutenant, and captain. She spent most of her career in patrol, but also worked in investigations, professional standards, training, hiring, and support services. Ms. Forst was the department's first female field training officer, sergeant, lieutenant, and captain. Ms. Forst has extensive training in accident investigation, domestic violence, sexual violence, community policing, and police management. She received numerous commendations during her career and earned numerous gold medals from the state and International Police Olympics. She also served on the board of directors for a local battered women's shelter for many years. An author of numerous magazine, journal, and newspaper publications, Ms. Forst regularly presents at conferences and to community groups. She has written several popular books on policing. Ms. Forst earned her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Criminal Justice, her Master's Degree in Community College Education, and her Doctorate Degree in Adult Education from Florida Atlantic University. She is a graduate of University of Louisville's Sex Crime Investigation School and Northwestern University's School of Police Staff and Command. Ms. Forst is a member of the Academy of Criminal Justice Sciences (ACJS), the Washington Association of Sheriffs and Police Chiefs (WASPC), and the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP) and has instructed for Northwestern's School of Police Staff and Command as well as Palm Beach Community College and Florida Atlantic University.

An EXCELLENT text book on American Policing

Recently I wanted to learn more about the American policing. I have worked for the Victorian Criminal Justice system for 2 years, have a degree in Criminology, read hundreds of academic and textbook criminology books in addition to true crime books etc.. I decided that rather than reading a book that contained a study of a particular squad or police department I would read a general textbook that covered American policing in general. I chose this one and I couldn't of picked a better text book!

This book has everything you could want in a text book. I hope one day Australia releases an Australian counterpart. it contains chapters on everything from terrorism to detective work to forensics to patrol work. There is even a section on how to join the police force. I also appreciate that they acknowledge unsworn members in the police force, a very important part! The authors are retired police officers so often they give snapshots of personal experiences they have encountered, both as uniformed members and detectives.

What I like about this book, is it caters to all tastes, sometimes it reads like a textbook, other times it reads like an academic criminology book, other times it even reads like a true crime book (when the authors provide narratives of previous cases). There really is something for everything here!

I really hope a former police officer turned academic in Australia follows the footsteps of these two authors and writes a similar book. When/if I complete my PhD in Criminology and start lecturing the only thing that would stop me from using this book is it is Americanised (although in my degree we often used American textbooks so it could work).

Recommended for anyone interested in policing!

Disregard "navylady's" review

The previous review by navylady is of the 3rd edition of this book, and the reviewer makes some very good points about that edition. However, it should not be included here as a review of the 4th edition because all of her gripes about the text are limited to the 3rd edition and these issues are not present in the 4th edition of this text. I teach Introduction to Policing at the university level and I use this book. After looking at many other policing textbooks, I feel this is the most comprehensive and inclusive of all of them. It is a great text for any intro level policing class.

Thorough, but Not Very Engaging

I ordered this for a class. I am reading it only because I have to. The writing is very structured and thorough. It is not the most engaging textbook that I have had to read, but it nowhere near the worst thing I've had to endure. Given the subject matter of the material covered in this textbook the authors have done a good job.
